COVID Summer Recovery - Week 8: What To Do With A Problem?

How To Problem-Solve!

  • Problems are kind of similar to emotions and thoughts because they tend to just pop up and we don’t always pause to think about what all the possible solutions are. Rather we tend to just go with the first solution that pops up. This can work some of the time, and then other times it just leads to more problems that need to be solved. If we take the time to notice and describe the problem (mindfulness again!), it is more likely that we will have a wide array of solutions to try out.

  • Download this week’s handout and activity to learn the S.T.E.P.S to problem-solve!

Why is it helpful to problem solve?

  1. problem solving in a mindful way tends to lead to less problems arising in the future.

  2. when we have less problems, we tend to feel better.

  3. on top of that, when kids learn how to problem solve, they learn to be independent thinkers and have better self-esteem.

  4. when kids are independent thinkers & have better self-esteem, you can spend more time doing things you enjoy with them, rather than figuring out what in the world is wrong!

If any of the activities seem difficult for your child to either understand or they seem highly emotional while completing them, please considering reaching out for professional support as this may be an indication they need additional help.
