COVID Summer Recovery - Week 5: Connected or Separate?

Brain-Mind-Body

  • How do you know what you are feeling? What is the first cue?

    • Typically, our bodies are our first signal to how we are feeling. Unfortunately, not many people are taught to notice what is happening in our bodies (a.k.a. we aren’t taught how to be mindful of our bodies). Because of this, we tend to think of our brain, mind, and body as separate. And because of that, when we feel something in our bodies (say butterflies in our stomach), we tend to ignore it or try to make it stop. And when we do that, we lose connection with our body and our emotions – which makes things confusing!

  • Download this week’s handout and activity to learn more about how to connect the brain, mind, and body!

Why is it helpful notice unpleasant and/or pleasant feelings in your body??

  1. makes it easier to identify emotions

  2. makes it easier to respond (rather than react) to emotions

  3. helps you attune to the emotions of your child.

If any of the activities seem difficult for your child to either understand or they seem highly emotional while completing them, please considering reaching out for professional support as this may be an indication they need additional help.
